Growing up!

Eeek, where did the time go? It is almost Christmas already! Where should I begin...... During my shockingly remiss absence from the blog the Mousey one has grown up! She is, and always will be I think, a small cat. The change has taken place in her face which has lost it's little kitten innocence (innocence was always stretching the point anyway!) and gained a feline beauty. The mischief is still quite evident though, with the naughty twinkle in her eye. Even in repose she looks like she is plotting her next move against the poor long suffering boys or those pesky birds in her garden! She has amassed a collection of toys almost as big as that of my children and has her own toy box. She is fascinated by everything, especially anything that can be knocked down, spilled or broken. Oh and chewing is one of her special talents!

Here is a picture of our little Princess Mouse. As you can see I made a mess of the picture posting and managed to put it on sideways, but I decided to consider this artistic which is less hassle than changing it. There is plenty to tell you but I think I better pace you and spread it over days. Too much Mouse all in one go can leave one exhausted, as demonstrated by this picture of my poor boys who had been thoroughly chased, pounced and chewed upon and had finally found a quiet spot to zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

High Jinx and Hysteria

Waking this morning to a beautiful day with sunlight streaming through the windows and birds singing in the trees outside my bedroom window, I was momentarily fooled into expecting a pleasant and peaceful day.
Imagine my horror then when the tranquility in the quiet cul de sac where I live was shattered by the piercing squeal of my own house alarm!

What, you may wonder does this have to do with the cat called Mouse? Lots! Looking around panic stricken I discovered an equally panicky Mouse frozen in horror next to the panic button in my bedroom. I must have caught her unawares since for a split second she looked very sheepish before quickly rearranging her features into a look of pure innocence.

The ensuing debacle put paid to any hope I was harbouring of a half decent day. I won't bore you with too many details but basically I was unable to switch it off and had to call the alarm company in a state of panic to sort it out. Needless to say I was also late for work. I swear when I was running around panicking I noticed a faint smile of amusement on the Mousey face!

So what have I learned? Never allow an insane kitten near a panic alarm! Also Pig, my older cat bites feet when there is too much noise for him!

Cat or Bat?

You would think a cat with the name Mouse might have somewhat of an identity crisis. Not a bit of it. Mouse is certain of her species. She is 100% sure that she is human, and as such she feels all human food should be hers. Consequently, every time the fridge opens she is there in a flash. Exasperated, this morning by her insistence that she should be allowed to get her entire self inside the fridge to select a tasty morsel, and wondering how she manages to hear the fridge from anywhere in the house, I called her big ears! Something in my tone obviously gave her pause for thought since she stopped and looked at me. Peering down at her I realised that she does indeed have extraordinarily huge ears. Even by kitten standards they are enormous! See for yourself.....
So to sum up she is a cat named Mouse who thinks she is human and has ears like a bat!

Introducing Mouse

This is Mouse, or to use her posh name, Myandawn Melissa! Mouse is a Caramel Asian Shorthair kitten who has been turning the house and the family upside down for a little over a month now. Hobbies include terrorising our other cats, chewing, running and skidding, stealing food and terrorising the other cats. Did I mention she terrorises the other cats?

We (the humans) have loved her since she was plopped into my lap by the breeder, where she lay looking impossibly adorable and angelic. It was almost as though she chose us instead of us choosing her!

I have a theory that she was sedated when we met her since she has never been so calm since!

Just joking of course.......I think!

The Big Boys.....

This is Pig, our beautiful Red Burmese boy. He is 5 years old and initially made a big display of being less than impressed by the Mousey one.

Some weeks later he tolerates her, sometimes even seems to show some affection for her despite being mercilessly picked on! A sweet natured boy who suddenly looks so grown up now there is a kitten in the house.

This is Claude who is around 7 years old. You can't tell from the picture but he is huge. So huge, in fact he doesn't fit on one humans lap and frequently has to use two!
Despite his considerable size, which is all muscle btw, he is the biggest scaredycat you ever will meet!
A real gentle giant, he regards Mouse with a mixture of affection and worry!
